For being in the middle of Long Island, there is quite a bit of wildlife at Cold Spring Harbor State Park. You’ll see in these photos deer as well as a hawk seen right on the trail. Of course, there are smaller animals too like squirrels, raccoons, and chipmunks.
As with any trail, you’ll want to be quiet and gentle in your walk and the wildlife is sure to come.
This particular hawk swooped down and nearly flew right over our heads while we were walking, so there are certainly animals in abundance.
The deer was barely a few yards away from the trail, just next to a fence. He was so quiet on the approach, we didn’t even hear him walking by.
The park also has great horned owls and red-tailed hawks.
