At the beginning of the Cold Spring Harbor State Park trail, you have a view of the harbor itself off in the distance. It’s a beautiful view of the bay and the ships.
During the summer, the foliage will get in the way. But in the winter, you can see through the bare trees and out into the distance.
In winter you’ll see fewer boats, but in summer the boats will be moving and full of activity.
In summer, the view of Cold Spring Harbor is pretty much blocked out. When you’re up on this ridge, it’s even hard to hear the noise of the cars passing by below.
This overall view is probably one of the best views of the harbor. The height really shows you the perspective of how the harbor is laid out. The town of Cold Spring Harbor itself is just to the east, directly off the harbor.
